Council approves culvert, lighting and multiple contracts; authorizes property easements for Mid Broadwell project

At the March 23 meeting, Alpharetta City Council approved several infrastructure and procurement items and authorized eminent-domain resolutions needed to advance a mid-Broadwell culvert and sidewalk project.

Contracts and procurements approved included a managed security services renewal (not to exceed $94,234.74) to provide third-party monitoring and incident response; a North Park lighting replacement project supported by a 50% Land and Water Conservation Fund grant (city share about $369,950); and landscaping for the Webbridge Road corridor (phase three plantings and establishment). Council also awarded an RFP for the Mid Broadwell Road culvert and sidewalk construction to Summit Construction with a contract not to exceed $1,547,878.50 and 330 calendar days for completion.

Public-works staff said the Mid Broadwell culvert replacement requires a temporary closure of that road segment in late spring/early summer; the project will be coordinated with police, fire and the county and will use T-SPLOST funds in addition to city funding. Parks staff said new lighting in North Park will replace wooden poles and improve playability on multiple fields.

Because the Mid Broadwell project requires temporary and permanent easements from adjacent parcels, council approved three condemnation resolutions (parcels 5, 6 and 8) to secure the required property interests. The city attorney read compensation amounts for each easement and council approved the resolutions unanimously to allow work to proceed on the schedule provided by public works.

Council approved all procurement and contract items by unanimous votes during the meeting; staff will proceed with contract execution and final design steps.
