BLM sets Mud Springs grand opening for Sept. 19; Spanish Valley path faces $1.1M shortfall

BLM staff told the Grand County Trail Mix Committee that the Mud Springs grand opening is tentatively set for Sept. 19, 2026. GCATT said Phase 1 construction of Mud Springs was partially completed last season and that full Phase 1 should be finished this fall; committee members cautioned users to avoid Mud Springs when the soil is wet.
GCATT also reported that the Spanish Valley bike path project remains unfinished and faces an estimated $1.1 million shortfall. Forest Service representatives reported that Warner and Oowah lakes remain closed for the season and that the Hazard County connector trail is still under review for approval. Park staff said Arches National Park experienced a record-busy month and noted staffing shortages; a gate has been installed on the White Rim trail to mark park boundaries, and North Wash boat ramp construction is scheduled for completion in May.
No formal motions or funding approvals for these projects were recorded at the committee meeting; agencies are managing timelines and outreach for their respective openings and construction work.
