District says final school cooling projects near completion ahead of opening

Elizabeth Public Schools told the board on Aug. 21 that a multi‑year effort to install air conditioning in district schools is nearly finished and that the final three systems will be activated in the coming week.
"We embarked on a cooling project in one, two, three, 12 schools. And this summer we're completing our final three. So hopefully next week they're going to be turning on the final three air conditionings," Mr. Kennedy said during the meeting, thanking facilities staff for accelerating work so buildings will be ready for students and staff.
Superintendent Oggo Hugamier and commissioners publicly recognized director Luis Milanes for his leadership on the projects, noting the work was completed ahead of an earlier projected timeline. The properties committee later reported that the last two air‑conditioning projects at school 5 and school 12 remain part of the district ESIP project with expected early‑fall completion for some items.
Board members described the completion as a long‑term goal of the board and thanked facilities staff for delivering the upgrades. No new capital appropriations were announced at the meeting; board materials referenced lease renewals and other capital transfers on the agenda for formal approval.
