Friends of the Fluger Library report strong sales, rolling memberships and outreach plans

Kim Rees, treasurer of the Friends group, said recent events—including a three-table sale at LipCon and the final 2024 book sale—were "very successful" and helped the organization end the year "strong, outpacing our budgeted income by a very large margin" while keeping expenditures low. Rees said volunteers increased, including half a dozen new volunteers at the November sale.
The group is shifting from calendar-year memberships to a rolling annual membership so each member's 12-month term begins on the day they pay. Rees said the change will let volunteers and staff better track renewals and conduct renewal outreach throughout the year.
Friends elected officers for 2025: the treasurer and secretary remain in place, and Aaron Millis and Kristen Elisor will serve as president and vice president. The Friends are seeking an outreach coordinator to help manage volunteer recruitment and programs.
Rees highlighted recent outreach: board books for baby sessions held offsite at River Oaks Elementary in Spanish/English and a Vietnamese session, literacy nights at nearby schools, and teen programming including a teen service night and writing workshops. She also announced plans to honor Audrey Daring, a founding member who died in early November.
The Friends said the first book sale of 2025 is scheduled for Jan. 23 at the library, and volunteers and patrons can expect both cash and credit-card processing; the group currently uses Square but is exploring other payment options.
