Hammond students highlighted for Tower Garden harvest and LEGO robotics wins

During the Feb. 4 meeting the board spotlighted student STEM achievements from Edgar's Middle School and several elementary and middle school LEGO robotics teams.
Edgar’s Middle School staff described a Tower Garden hydroponic unit used in the school’s maker space. Miss Kennedy explained students selected "lack of access to fresh fruits and vegetables" as their community problem, started seeds, managed timers and nutrient solutions, and harvested vegetables for student learning. Two student presenters, Lamar (seventh grade) and Ahmad Mustafa (eighth grade), and staff received certificates from the board and posed for photos.
Board members praised the program as hands-on STEM education preparing students for global careers. The board then recognized LEGO League teams and coaches, recounted tournament placements and congratulated students who advanced to semi-state competitions.
What’s next: The board sent certificates back with school representatives and encouraged continued participation in STEM programs.
