Franklin County Library highlights summer reading, bookmobile partnerships, student artwork and two VPLDA awards

The Franklin County Library Board reviewed recent and upcoming programs and recognized staff achievements at its April 14 meeting.
Director Rebecca Ventola reported that the Summer Reading Program theme will be "Dinosaurs," a perennial favorite for young readers, and that the bookmobile's summer schedule is being finalized. Ventola said the library plans to partner with the Essig Center to offer crafting in the park for adults.
The minutes note ongoing success with paint-and-craft programs and that the library hosted a poetry night in March to celebrate National Poetry Month. New artwork by Boones Mill students is currently displayed in the upstairs hallway, and staff are planning a return engagement of the Tiny Art Show.
On facilities and security, the library installed a new security camera in the Mann Room and repaired two existing cameras. The board also welcomed news that the library won two awards from the Virginia Public Library Directors Association: an "Impactful Marketing/Public Relations Effort" award for a social media upgrade and the "Standard of Excellence: Silver Award" for outstanding customer service and patron resources. The minutes say the Board of Supervisors will recognize the library at its April meeting.
