County hears presentations from county-attorney and engineering firms; commissioners to submit ratings for continuing-services contracts

Jefferson County commissioners heard presentations from multiple law firms competing for the county-attorney role and from more than a dozen engineering firms seeking placement on the county's continuing-services list.
Representatives summarized experience with local government law, procurement, grant support and construction inspection. Evan Rosenthal, speaking for a firm that has previously served the county, said the firm would "keep everything status quo" on retainer and hourly rates and emphasized responsiveness and local-government specialization.
For engineering services, firms emphasized grant-writing capacity, DOT and construction-inspection experience, stormwater modeling and local presence. Staff asked commissioners to fill out standardized rating sheets for attorney and engineering proposals and return them by close of business the following day (or early the next week) so staff can notify selected firms and finalize continuing-services arrangements. No final contract awards were made at the meeting; the board will use the collected scores to guide selection per procurement rules.
