Colonel Young recounts island memorials, urges public help keeping records accurate

He thanked the City of Vero Beach for recent maintenance — noting causeway tree removal, seawall reinforcement and pressure-washed sidewalks — and urged residents to report any errors they notice on plaques and cenotaphs so they can be corrected.
Colonel Young described several individual service stories and memorial restorations, including earlier work to correct a mistaken name on a cenotaph. He also noted a planned marker for Lance Corporal Chase Stevenson and said organizers would coordinate with the family about a dedication ceremony.
He closed with community-event reminders and praised collaborations among local archives, veteran service organizations and volunteers that help preserve the island’s veteran histories.
