Council member Dylan Lennox moved to table the question for a year, arguing the council should await city direction, but the motion failed for lack of a second. Tom Kotynski then moved that the council have no Facebook page; Luella Vogel seconded Kotynski’s motion and it passed unanimously. Five council members were recorded as present at the meeting.
The discussion opened with concerns from Greg Milton and Lennox about potential liability and the absence of municipal rules governing council social-media accounts. Council members said their reluctance was partly practical—few members were willing to manage a page—and partly legal: they were unclear what the city permits or requires for official neighborhood-council accounts.
The action leaves the council without an official Facebook presence for now; members did not direct staff to pursue alternative online outreach at the meeting. The council’s next regular meeting is May 18 at 7 p.m., where Mayor Cory Reeves will be the guest speaker.
