At its May 4 meeting the Policy Committee reviewed proposed updates to Policy 6170 (Parent and Family Engagement), which staff described as a change that replaces the district 'compact' with a consolidated 'plan' and incorporates administrative procedures by reference.
Staff said the substantive components formerly described in the 'compact' now appear in the district plan and related administrative procedures, which administration will prepare and upload to meet FY2027 requirements for consolidated-district-plan submissions. Committee members said the policy language itself does not contain substantive changes and indicated the committee could approve the policy on first read.
Committee members asked staff to ensure the required components — including input from bilingual parent advisory groups and South campus stakeholders — were captured in the consolidated district plan. Staff said they had already gathered input from the bilingual parent advisory group and would coordinate with the assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment before finalizing the plan and administrative procedures.
Committee members signaled support for approving the policy on first read and directed staff to return with any consequential edits if the state or federal guidance changes before the submission deadline.
The committee did not adopt final board action on policy language at the meeting; staff will proceed with administrative updates and deliver any additional edits to the committee or the board as necessary.
