The Clay City Council set a firm deadline for applications to the city's Zoning Board of Adjustment and completed a pair of procedural votes on candidate appointments.
At the start of the meeting council members urged prospective volunteers to complete written applications and agreed to close submissions at 5:00 p.m. next Monday. Councilors said they wanted to prioritize applicants who followed through with the application process rather than those who only expressed verbal interest.
Councilors debated two council actions. On Resolution 2620 (appointing members to the zoning board), members raised a procedural concern about whether the resolution had been properly moved and seconded before discussion; after procedural clarification the council voted to table Resolution 2620 until the next regular meeting in March. Later, under Resolution 2621 the council agreed on a selection approach in which councilors mark their top five choices and staff place selected applicants into staggered terms by application order and indicated availability. Present applicants including Matt Clay and Alexis Banks were introduced.
Both the tabling motion on Resolution 2620 and the approval of Resolution 2621 were recorded by roll call. The roll-call votes for Resolution 2621 were recorded as Yes from Councelor Tom Thompson, Councelor Youngwood, Councelor Nail, Councelor Harris, Councelor Rush and Mayor Anderson.
The council's actions leave final appointments to be completed at a future meeting; staff will process the application packet received by the stated deadline and prepare the candidates for council consideration on March 24.
