State Representative Soder joined the March 25 Blackstone-Millville Regional School Committee meeting to report on COVID vaccination efforts, budget prospects and local community outreach.
Soder described the opening of a regional clinic in the Blackstone Valley that provided appointments for seniors and teachers and said the clinic ran smoothly. "The vaccine is here ... the light is here," Soder said, praising the local collaboration that set up the site and noting plans to expand vaccine access for teachers and seniors.
Soder also said the recently passed federal stimulus package should help the district by filling gaps from the prior year and that she will advocate for budget amendments and capital items — including science-lab upgrades — as the budget season begins. She encouraged the committee to submit specific amendment requests and described ongoing collaboration with neighboring districts on shared programs and grant applications.
Soder announced a community meals initiative: volunteers and district staff will serve about 200 meals from Kennedy Elementary on Sunday and share student art projects with neighboring towns as part of the outreach. The representative said these efforts and the vaccination clinic were part of a broader push to support students and families through the pandemic.
Committee members thanked Soder for the update and for her ongoing engagement with the district.
