"That's ridiculous," Johnson said, rejecting posts that asserted the fort would take farms and properties to expand to the interstate. He said the county has been discussing an interchange near Lewisville Road to improve access, a project that would combine state, federal and local funding, but that the interchange study does not imply Fort Gordon itself is planning to acquire or condemn surrounding land.
Johnson said the interchange effort has been under discussion for years and is intended to support local traffic and access to Fort Gordon, which hosts Army cyber operations and other federal missions. He urged residents not to conflate infrastructure planning with an assumption of base expansion or condemnation of property.
