Ms. White, a board member, addressed the board regarding the decision to terminate the Knoxville Preparatory School charter agreement and focused on supports for students during the transition.
"I am really sad for the students and their transition that they that they'll have to make to whatever school," Ms. White said, adding that Knox Prep staff are providing dedicated school navigators, summer academic programming, and private transition funds to help students enroll in new schools and address clothing and academic needs.
She said each student and family has been paired with a professional navigator to assist with enrollment and that transition funds from private donors will cover additional academic supports and clothing as requested by students and families. Ms. White encouraged more robust applications and deeper community commitment if new charter schools are proposed in the future.
The board did not take a separate vote at the work session on the termination during the public comments portion; the record notes staff support for student transition activities and private donor funding for the supports described.
