The Knox County Board of Education on Thursday agreed to delay consideration of a proposed superintendent evaluation instrument until its May meeting to allow related contract changes to be drafted and reviewed alongside the instrument.
Madam Chair said the Strategic Plan Committee’s recommendation was to give board members “ample time to review the new instrument” and that changes in the instrument require minor edits to the superintendent’s employment contract so both can be considered together for consistency and transparency.
Board counsel noted the edits are intended as clarifying language rather than changes in practice. The counsel said the proposed redline will align dates and authority language so the evaluation instrument and the superintendent contract do not conflict.
The chair asked board members to direct questions about the proposed instrument or contract changes to committee contacts listed in the packet. The board did not take a final vote on the instrument; the item was postponed to the May meeting.
The delay keeps decision-making public and permits simultaneous review of both the evaluation tool and any contract amendments that would be needed if the instrument is adopted.
