Staff described three applications: a paddle hanging sign estimated at about $1,493 (75% recommended), an awning and silk-screen proposal (about $3,590 cost; 75% recommended), and a larger storefront renovation and awning package for a new mixed-use retail and personal-care business (presented with a worst-case project budget up to approximately $227,300; BDC and Beautification recommended 75%).
Trustees questioned whether the 75% funding level should include a maximum award cap to ensure business owners share more of the cost. One trustee said she favored smaller matching percentages or a dollar cap rather than an uncapped 75% award. Staff noted that the projects before the board had unanimous committee support and that the grant budget still had funds available.
The board approved the consent agenda as presented by roll call. Staff said facade-grant applicants agree not to contest increases in assessed valuation as a condition of the program, and that permit and building constraints (setback, protrusion limits and clearances) will govern final installations for awnings and projections.
