Hardin County proclaims Period Poverty Awareness Week and EMS Week; local organizers launch Pink Dot donation campaign

The Hardin County Fiscal Court adopted two proclamations during its May meeting: one recognizing National Period Poverty Awareness Week (May 11–17) and another designating Emergency Medical Services Week.
Beth Avey, representing the Heels Together initiative of the Central Kentucky Community Foundation, described the Pink Dot Project, a local donation campaign launched in October to supply menstrual products to residents in need. Avey said donation bins have been placed across the county, including the county clerk's office, and cited national statistics noted in the proclamation: "2 in 5 women struggle to afford period supplies," and "1 in 4 girls miss school because they don't have access to menstrual supplies." Anne Fisher and Dr. Shannon Holt were cited as local partners who helped develop the project.
Judge Hall read the EMS Week proclamation recognizing the role of local emergency medical responders and presented the proclamation to Mark Peterson, the county's EMS director, in appreciation of career and volunteer providers and their continued training.
The court encouraged residents to support the Pink Dot bins and observe EMS Week activities. The Pink Dot organizers asked residents to bring period supplies to donation bins and promoted awareness during National Period Poverty Awareness Week.
