Martinez's absence from the April 22, 2026 meeting; that motion passed after Mr. Martinez recorded an abstention on the vote.
During public comment parents from Casey Elementary urged the district to investigate a last-minute cancellation of a school-wide trip to the Rialto Theater. Mario Ortiz, identified as school site council president, said buses and roughly "500 children and 50 adults" were ready when the trip was canceled and that parents first learned of the change through social media. Ortiz read the principal’s apology aloud and asked Superintendent Dr. Alvarez to "look into that, please" and to report back in the weekly board packet; Dr. Alvarez agreed to follow up.
Several board members acknowledged parents’ concern and asked the superintendent to provide details at the next meeting or in a written report. There were no formal policy changes tied to the complaint during the meeting.
The board adjourned after noting the next regular meeting will be May 20, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at the district education center.
