Director announces two departing commissioners; city council to consider replacements

Director Cardinius addressed the commission near the meeting’s close to announce that two commissioners — Phillips (moving to city council) and Fugle (now with youth court) — have left the commission and that the mayor has recommended two replacements who will be presented to the city council for appointment.
Cardinius thanked the departing commissioners for years of service and said appointments and training for new commissioners will follow the city’s usual procedures. He also reminded commissioners that if they feel they have a conflict of interest they should recuse themselves and that they do not need to explain the reason during a public hearing: “If you guys feel like that's the case, that's it ... you just tell us and then we’ll figure things out,” Cardinius said.
The director said the nominations should appear on the next city-council agenda and that staff will notify commissioners when appointments are scheduled. The commission then moved to adjourn.
