Evendale council adopts cyber security policy as emergency, mandates employee training

The Village of Evendale Council on a unanimous roll call adopted Ordinance 26-21 as an emergency, establishing a formal cyber security policy and directing the director of administrative services to implement required training and compliance measures.

The council suspended the second and third readings and approved the emergency clause before adopting the ordinance. Randon, the village IT staff member asked to comment, said the ordinance largely formalizes existing practices and will add mandatory employee training: "this ordinance is just largely putting in place what we already do every day, which is try to keep village safe," and noted the change frames day-to-day practices to comply with Ohio Revised Code 9.64.

Council members stressed the financial and operational consequences of cyber incidents and backed the requirement for training. The ordinance language delegates implementation to the director of administrative services and declares the measure an emergency to expedite compliance.

The ordinance was adopted by roll call with each council member recorded in favor. The council did not set an implementation timetable in the meeting record; staff will oversee training and policy roll-out and report back under the authority of the administrative-services director.
