Aaron Voss, who identified himself as a city resident and a member of the city council and the July 4 committee, briefed the Marine Commission on plans for the city's 250th Fourth of July celebration and asked for assistance recruiting sponsors.
Voss said organizers are seeking to extend the fireworks show for the anniversary. He told commissioners the fireworks contract is currently quoted at about "$30,000" and that event support (emergency services and law enforcement) is estimated at "a little more than $4,000." He said the county contributed $5,000 last year and that the committee is requesting increased county support for the larger anniversary event.
Voss walked through the planned schedule and community events: a 10 a.m. parade along 14th Avenue, Riverside Park activities with a veterans recognition at 4:30 p.m., food trucks and community vendors, and a fireworks show starting around 9 p.m. He encouraged community groups and businesses to sponsor the event, explained that sponsorships can continue up to the event but that certain advertising elements (shirts, logos) have an earlier deadline (roughly March–April), and said organizers will supply sponsorship forms on the city website.
He listed community partners involved in planning, including the Heritage Center, museum, theater and local arts groups, and invited commission members to participate in outreach and advertising. "You don't have to be a corporate corporation to sponsor it," he said, noting smaller and in‑kind sponsors remain welcome.
Voss concluded by offering handouts and answers on logistics; commissioners thanked him for the update. The commission did not take formal action on funding at the meeting; staff and the committee will continue sponsor outreach.
