Minnetonka City Council appoints Amanda Maxwell to Ward 2
Summary

City staff explained the vacancy arose when Rebecca Shaq was elected mayor, leaving the Ward 2 term to run through Jan. 3, 2028. Staff said outreach for the appointment produced 20 applications; a council subcommittee interviewed five finalists at special meetings on Feb. 20 and Feb. 23 and recommended Maxwell.
Council member Wilburn moved to appoint Maxwell; Council member Calvert seconded. The council voted unanimously in favor (Kley: yes; Foster Bolton: yes; Wilburn: yes; Calvert: yes; Rome: yes; Mayor Rebecca Shaq: yes), and the motion carried. The council then paused while Mr. Nelson administered the oath of office. Maxwell repeated the oath, pledging to support the U.S. and Minnesota Constitutions and to “faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of the office of council member, Ward 2.”
After taking the oath, Maxwell thanked the council for its consideration and outreach efforts, saying, “I appreciate the care that you took in selecting applicants. I’ll do my best to represent the people of my ward.” Mayor Rebecca Shaq indicated a more formal swearing-in will take place at the city’s regular meeting next Monday.
The council adjourned immediately afterward following a motion by Council member Wilburn and a second by Council member Calvert.
