Committee member introduces elementary student officers to Saugerties Central School District board

At a meeting of the Saugerties Central School District board, a committee member introduced a group of student government officers from the district’s three elementary schools and described recent community-service projects they carried out.

The speaker said the students ran their own campaigns, wrote essays and were elected by their peers. “On their way to the Capitol this morning, they stopped at the Ronald McDonald House where they hand-delivered supplies and gift cards raised through their annual readathon,” the committee member said, noting the donations will go directly to families in need in Albany.

The introducer outlined additional projects: regular visits to Ivy Lodge to support local seniors, supply drives so residents receive care packages, Veterans Day visits, holiday caroling and crafts. He also said students plant hundreds of American flags on a front lawn each year to honor veterans and maintain a free school-supply “score store” stocked by community donations so any student can obtain supplies without questions or cost.

The speaker named 15 student officers present and identified five chaperones — Stephanie Pettit, Sarah Prutzman, Tammy Drost, Rhonda Quickswart and Jen Ardipani — who accompanied the group. He asked the board president to “please offer them all of the privileges of the chamber and welcome them.”
