St. Landry board adopts 2026 millage, withdraws $141,069 from Education Excellence funds and approves student travel grants

The resolution directs parish administrative officials to spread the taxes on the 2026 assessment roll and to proceed with collection as provided by law.
Separately, the board approved a resolution to withdraw $141,069 from the district’s Education Excellence Funds (interest/earnings invested with the State Treasury) so that the district can invest those monies locally. The motion—citing Louisiana Revised Statute 39.99 and the district’s investment agreement—was presented as a precaution to ensure the district retains the interest revenue should the ballot language affect state-held interest distribution; the resolution passed unanimously.
The board also approved a slate of modest financial assistance requests (generally $200–$500) to send student groups to national and regional events, including JAG, Beta Club, FBLA and NASA HUNCH competitions. In procurement actions, the board authorized advertising for bids in several categories (bread and bakery, milk, frozen food, produce, small equipment, chemicals, paper supplies) and allowed the child nutrition program to piggyback on an existing cooperative RFP for summer meal box production. The board granted permission to lease property at 1427 Lynwood Drive for three months to support summer feeding meal box production at the stated operating rate plus utilities.
The millage adoption, fund withdrawal and procurement approvals were approved on the record during the meeting; members recorded no nays or abstentions during the roll call for the millage resolution.
What’s next: The district will proceed with local investment of the withdrawn Education Excellence funds, publish procurement solicitations as authorized, and implement the summer meal box plan as discussed.
