City staff warns of intersection closure on College Drive; open house set for j‑turn project

Staff scheduled a public open house for the proposed J‑turn project on Minnesota 23 at Tiger Drive from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21 at the Red Baron Arena. Jason encouraged residents to attend to learn about the design and give feedback.
Council members asked how the city will keep truck traffic off residential streets during the closure after several residents reported trucks cutting through neighborhoods following GPS directions. Jason said crew signage will direct traffic around the town and that staff will meet with MnDOT to explore additional signage and detour routing; he cautioned that signage cannot force drivers to follow routes but can reduce confusion. "We have trouble making them turn," he said, noting staff will continue coordination with MnDOT and the FBO where relevant.
The council did not take a formal vote on design approvals at the meeting; the update was provided as a staff report and public-engagement notice.
