State veterans office outlines accreditation standards; IDVA confirms county compliance

A representative of the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs presented the state’s updated accreditation standards for county veterans service officers, implemented after changes in the 2025 legislative session (referenced as Senate Enrolled Act 433). The standards require posted office hours, private space for confidential benefit discussions, IT connectivity to use the statewide claims-management system, use of a federal personal identity verification (PIV) card for secure VA system access, mandatory trainings and periodic reporting through IDVA systems.
Mark Gorley told commissioners that the standards include performance indicators and procedures for remedial action or revocation of accreditation if a county officer falls out of compliance. He commended the board’s selection of the newly appointed county officer, noting she currently meets requirements for accreditation and access to the VA claims system.
The IDVA representative said the report is one of two bianual presentations counties will receive in the year and that the county should expect follow-up reporting requirements tied to the IDVA transparency portal.
