Rezoning request for Yount parcels set for Burke County public hearing

A request to rezone two parcels owned by John and Rita Yount from General Business to Residential-Three (approx. 1.02 acres) will be heard at the Jan. 21 Burke County Commissioners meeting following a planning-board recommendation of approval.
Burke County planning staff notified the Board of Commissioners on Jan. 7, 2025, that John and Rita Yount have requested to rezone two parcels (approximately 1.02 acres; PINS 2783261136 and 2783260135) from General Business (G-B) to Residential-Three (R-3) to allow construction of two residential units.
Planning Director Alan Glines said the parcels were formerly part of a heating-and-air business and that surrounding zoning is primarily R-3, making residential infill compatible with the Blueprint Burke land-use plan. Staff recommended the rezoning and reported that the Planning Board voted 6–0 to recommend approval after a Dec. 5, 2024 public hearing where the applicant addressed the board and no members of the public spoke.
Chairman Jeffrey C. Brittain moved the item without objection to the Jan. 21, 2025 regular meeting at 6:00 p.m. for a public hearing and final action.
