Seward County approves G&P Landfill request to accept out‑of‑area petroleum‑contaminated soil as alternative daily cover

Bodfield said using the material would help control litter and reduce hauling time and equipment usage.
Commissioner Darrell Zabrocki asked whether the material would affect groundwater; Bodfield replied it would not, saying the material would be piled on top of waste, would not be harmful, and that groundwater testing is performed twice yearly. The board approved allowing G&P Landfill to accept the material as alternative daily cover. The vote was 4–1, with Chairperson Misty Ahmic voting no.
The landfill representative said groundwater testing will continue; the board did not record additional environmental conditions or monitoring requirements in the minutes.
