Commissioners and staff summarized a May 1 field trip to the Northwest Recharge Delivery System, saying the visit helped clarify the schematic and operations for the partnered and independent components.
Presenters described touring the partnered reservoir and booster station, the partnered recovery wells, recharge basins (including the Lower Santa Cruz and Abra Valley basins), transmission mains along the Twin Peaks and Lambert alignments, and the independent Shannon Road Reservoir and booster alignment that ties into Oro Valley’s service area. The partnered Twin Peaks reservoir was described as roughly a 1,000,000-gallon facility and a delineation point between partnered and independent project components.
Staff said transmission main work between the partnered Twin Peaks Reservoir and the independent Shannon Road Reservoir is nearly complete and that the remaining work is the booster station at the partnered reservoir. The presenter said that, barring delays, the project is expected to be finished by about this time next year.
Commissioners asked operational questions about which entities recover water from the system, how account balances will be tracked, and how annual reporting to the Arizona Department of Water Resources will reflect recovered water. Staff explained that annual ADWR reports document withdrawals and wheeling and that recovered water would be logged against account balances in those reports.
The field-trip recap closed with thanks to staff and the town manager for participating and with a note that photos from the tour will be included in future town materials.
