Staff outline playground replacements, parking plans and splash-pad closure while awaiting UV chamber part

At the May 11 meeting Brent, a parks staffer, briefed the board on capital and maintenance work under way.
Brent said engineering firms are finalizing plans for Community Park and Founders Park parking and staff expect construction documents soon. He described conceptual design work for Braddock Park, and said the Brown House will receive outdoor restroom, pavilion, and parking updates in a subsequent project phase. The department plans to replace two playgrounds this year—Southbrook and Creekside South—and staff expect purchase orders in the coming month with installation likely by the end of summer.
Brent also explained why the Community Park splash pad remains closed: the system uses both chemical treatment and a UV treatment chamber, and the UV chamber component failed. "It's actually the UV chamber at Community Park," he said, adding the vendor is sending a replacement unit this week and staff hope to install it next week and reopen the splash pad.
The board did not take formal action on these project updates; staff asked for questions from members. No construction schedules with firm dates or contract awards were presented at the meeting. Brent said the department will circulate documents and updates as plans progress.
