Parks staff preview summer events, report camp revenue jump to $191,069

Jenny Lambert, a parks and recreation programmer, told the Wylie Parks and Recreation Board on May 11 that spring events have been well attended and previewed a busy summer lineup.
Lambert said the Eurex Center’s Easter Bunny brunch drew 72 people, the Community Park Center senior prom hosted 140 guests on April 17, and the Brown House’s Martha Washington Tea drew 26 participants. She highlighted the department’s Summer Kickoff on May 29 from 9 a.m. to 11:45 a.m., which last year attracted nearly 3,000 visitors, and noted Bluegrass on Ballard will follow on May 30.
Lambert described event logistics including overflow parking at Collin College and a shuttle service, and asked board members to recruit volunteers. She also announced summer camp offerings will run May 26–Aug. 12 with 12 weeks of programming this year and reported the department has brought in $191,069 in camp revenue, a 14% increase from last year.
"This year we actually have 12 weeks of camp because of how Wylie ISD schedule landed," Lambert said, and added that early-bird registration and bundled passes offer discounts.
The programmer invited members to sign up as volunteers and noted continuing outreach with partner organizations such as the library. No formal board action was taken on these informational items. The board will hear related operational updates as staff prepare for peak summer activity.
