Rockville council proclaims May observances, highlights Glenview Mansion centennial

The Mayor and Council of Rockville opened their May 4 meeting with a slate of proclamations recognizing public-health and cultural observances for May 2026, and marking the 100th anniversary of Glenview Mansion.
Council members read proclamations honoring ALS Awareness Month, Greek Genocide Remembrance Day, Jewish American Heritage Month, Lyme Disease Awareness Month, National Public Service Month, National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day, National Public Works Week, Women’s Health Week and other observances. Recreation and Parks staff and community partners accepted proclamations and promoted related events, including Glenview Mansion’s centennial speaker series and a May 19 public truck show at Manny Stepanek Park.
“Please join Glenview Mansion and Peerless Rockville for their cosponsored speaker series event on May 14 at 7 p.m.,” a Recreation and Parks representative said in accepting one proclamation. Police Chief Jason West accepted the National Police Week proclamation and thanked officers for their service.
Why it matters: Proclamations are ceremonial but help publicize city programming and community partnerships; officials used the opportunity to promote family‑oriented and public-safety events and to urge residents to use city services such as summer program registration, which begins May 5. The mayor and council also signaled continued emphasis on public-health outreach during Mental Health Awareness Month and other observances.
