The proclamation described the clerk’s office as the communication link between citizens, the governing body, administrative departments and government partners, and noted that clerks are official recordkeepers with significant statutory duties. It referenced professional development programs and certification administered by the North Carolina Association of County Clerks, the University of North Carolina School of Government and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.
Board members expressed appreciation for county clerks’ role in maintaining public records and facilitating transparent government. The proclamation was read as part of the meeting record and approved by the five elected board members in the work session.
