Matt Grant was elected chair of the North Brookfield Public School Committee at a May 11 special meeting following a nomination and unanimous roll-call vote.
A member moved, "I would like to nominate Matt Grant for the school committee chair," and the motion was seconded. After a roll-call vote the chair announced, "Congratulations, Matt," and invited him to take over the meeting.
After taking the gavel, Grant nominated Nancy Waldron for vice chair. The nomination was seconded and approved by roll call. The committee then nominated Kristen G. Grande for clerk; that motion also passed by roll call. The committee indicated the clerk paperwork would be forwarded to the town clerk for processing.
The new leadership moved on to routine governance work, including a review of the committee’s six standing subcommittees and a request that members consider which panels they would like to join. Members were told most will serve on two subcommittees; the committees identified were budget, negotiations, building & grounds, policy, curriculum and a superintendent review committee.
The meeting closed with housekeeping items and a motion to adjourn that passed without objection.
Next steps: the committee will collect member preferences for subcommittee assignments at the next scheduled meeting and route the clerk paperwork to the town clerk.
