At its Nov. 10 meeting the Carrolton Village Council approved hiring three firefighters and heard details from parade organizers who said they secured insurance and clearance for candy tossing from floats.
Fire Chief Shane Thomas introduced three candidates — Tyler Barrett, Aaron Stoller and Tyson Baker — and Councilor Locke moved to hire all three. Councilor Barto seconded; roll call vote: Lambert, yes; Locke, yes; Tangler, yes; Parker, yes; Barto, yes. Vote being 5-0, the motion carried. The three individuals were presented at the meeting and the council approved their hiring.
Visitors Drew Dodds and Michilyn Hemming updated the council on plans for the upcoming Christmas parade and said they had obtained a $2,000,000 insurance policy naming the Village. The Village Administrator reported contacting Janie Geis at Weichert Insurance, who indicated that organizers had followed required steps and that tossing candy from floats was permissible under the policy and procedures described.
Other operational items raised included recent installation of additional street lighting at Industrial Drive and Scio Road in response to safety concerns, and council discussion of portable speed-limit sign costs (approximately $3,500 each) and meter bagging for the holiday season, which will be scheduled when the Police Department has time to perform it.
The meeting also moved into and out of an executive session later in the evening and adjourned at 7:48 p.m.
