She also proposed not opening immediately after school when attendance is low, which staff estimates would add about $36,000 in savings. To improve rental efficiency, the city would move to two- or three-hour evening rental blocks rather than one-hour blocks.
Council members expressed support for finding efficiencies but asked staff to return with clearer attendance data—specifically how many people arrive or remain between 7 and 8 p.m. and how many users are membership holders versus pay-at-entry—so the council can weigh the revenue and community-impact trade-offs. Megan agreed to follow up and recommended that staff re-evaluate mid-summer if complaints increase.
If adopted, staff said changes would be advertised on the city website and social media and could be adjusted during the summer if needed.
