Board adopts Truckee Fire District mitigation-fee increase tied to construction-cost index

The Nevada County Board of Supervisors voted to adopt the Truckee Fire Protection District’s Capital Improvement Plan and mitigation-fee annual expenditure plan for fiscal year 2026, which included small inflationary increases in the district’s impact fees tied to the ENR construction-cost index.
Planning staff explained that the fees are indexed to construction-cost changes and noted the district adopted the CIP earlier in March. Chief Kevin McKechnie of Truckee Fire District joined remotely and characterized the change as an inflationary increase in mitigation fees.
The fee adjustments that the board adopted were described in staff materials as: residential fees increasing from $1.31 to $1.34 per square foot; industrial from $0.99 to $1.01; commercial/retail from $1.39 to $1.42; and office from $1.98 to $2.02. Planning staff said the new fees would go into effect 60 days after the board’s adoption.
Chief McKechnie confirmed the district uses one uniform fee schedule across Placer County, Nevada County and the Town of Truckee and said the district plans to commission a new nexus study in the coming year.
The board approved the resolution by roll call with all members voting yes.
