The Douglas County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution recognizing National Crime Victims' Rights Week during their April 14 meeting. Senior Deputy District Attorney Nate Marsh introduced the resolution and discussed the nationwide theme and the rights guaranteed to crime victims under Colorado and federal laws. Sheriff Darren Weekly and representatives from Covered Colorado and From Silence to Saved described victim-advocate services and community partnerships that provide immediate support to survivors.
Commissioners highlighted recent county investments that benefit victim services, including expanded prosecutor staffing, increased detectives, and a recently opened domestic violence shelter. The board adopted the resolution and invited representatives for a photo after the vote.
The proclamation covers the week of April 19'25, 2026 and the board noted the county's ongoing commitments to trauma-informed, culturally responsive services for victims.
