During the May 7 meeting the Fresno City Council opened with a series of ceremonial proclamations recognizing public-health observances and community organizations.
Council President Nelson Esparza presented a proclamation for World Asthma Day to the Central California Asthma Collaborative; Graciella Annaya said CCAC has served thousands with education, home assessments, remediation and community outreach and noted Central Valley air quality challenges. Council Member Analisa Perea presented a Mental Health Awareness Month proclamation to NAMI Fresno; representatives recounted peer-support services and personal experiences. The council also recognized AAPI Heritage Month (sponsored by Council Member Vang), National Tennis Month at Roeding Park (Adam Bleian described beginner programs and a community event), National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day (Mayor and police leadership), Fresno Preservation Month and Fresno Christian High School’s The Feather (student journalism award).
Council leaders limited proclamation time to 10 minutes each to keep to the business agenda and thanked community partners for outreach and service.
