The Houston County Commission placed on its agenda a request to sell 16 older dump trucks and purchase 16 new dump trucks, using existing unused funds so that no additional appropriation from the general fund would be required.
Chair told commissioners the market had shifted such that resale and purchase terms created an opportunity to replace the fleet economically. He estimated the net difference between sale proceeds and the cost of new trucks would be about $90,000, and said staff will use available, unused funds rather than request more from the general fund. “If we can get rid of…almost two year old dump trucks and get 16 brand new dump trucks for less than $100,000, I think we need to take that deal every day of the week,” the Chair said.
The commission placed the request on the agenda with no objections. The administrative meeting did not include a final purchase approval; staff indicated Barkley (a staff contact) would be available at a later meeting to answer detailed questions about specifications and financing.
