Houston County Commission places Cottonwood sports complex architect contract on agenda

The Houston County Commission on Tuesday placed on the regular meeting agenda a request to approve a contract with architect Billy Snell to design a concession stand at the Cottonwood Sports Complex.
Chair introduced the item and said the county now owns the Cottonwood property after the local school board donated it to the county. He said lodging tax funds will be used for the project and that the next step is design work by Billy Snell, after which the county will advertise and bid construction under public works procurement requirements. “Everything has to be bid out according to the public works law,” the Chair said.
Mr. Adams, who was asked for comment, said the proposed contract represents the next step in a process that has involved multiple stakeholders and that the board should move forward to allow bidding and future contract approval. The commission placed the item on the agenda with no objections.
The request on the agenda was for authorization to enter into an architectural services contract; commission members did not take a final construction award or vote on the eventual bid during the administrative meeting. If approved in a future meeting, the county will publish procurement documents and solicit bids for construction based on the architect’s plans.
