Speakers across the dais recounted Nelson’s progression from classroom roles to district leadership, noting she helped open 10 new campuses during her tenure and led a successful 2024 bond election for more than $380 million. Colleagues described Nelson’s focus on students and staff and presented a video and remarks recognizing her service.
In her remarks, Nelson emphasized her priorities. “I would hope that people know that my decisions were always about kids,” she said, reflecting on pandemic-era choices and long-term district growth. Trustees and staff presented gifts and a new award named in her honor was noted during the ceremony.
Board members and community representatives thanked Nelson for her service and wished her well in retirement; the meeting included a round of photographs and formal recognition from the board.
