The presenter, introduced as Frank and representing the Lake Wales Arts Council, said the council hosted roughly 12 public programs this season, reaching “well over 11,000 people” and serving more than 200 students through arts education offerings. He said the council engaged more than 100 local and regional artists in the past six months and highlighted partnerships with Bok Tower Gardens and local schools.
Using the Americans for the Arts Arts and Economic Prosperity calculator, the presenter said the council’s activities translated into an estimated $597,000 in economic activity for the local area. He framed arts programming as contributing to quality of life, youth development and economic development downtown.
Commissioners praised recent events, including the Lake Wales Arts Festival and a Tasting Trail feature; discussion included revival efforts for the Marilyn Newell Youth Music Festival and expanded youth offerings such as Studio 60 printmaking and pottery classes.
