Port Angeles students showcase career and technical programs to the school board

At the May 7 Port Angeles School District board meeting, dozens of students described hands-on learning across the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs and student organizations.
ASB leaders described community engagement events and assemblies. DECA co-presidents reported that 22 students attended area competition and 18 advanced to state, with fundraising from concessions producing $7,000 and student-store sales bringing in $5,500 through February. FBLA officers said membership rose from 21 to 41 and multiple students qualified for state competition; one student will proceed to national competition in San Antonio.
Students representing sports medicine, precision machining, construction, auto technology, maritime and ROC/ROTC provided specific examples of industry-aligned training, competition results (state and national placements), and community service. Construction students described building a tiny home for a local nonprofit; the precision machining program noted a consecutive state championship. Presenters repeatedly credited teacher mentors and community partnerships (college scrubs camps, community college links) for creating post-high-school pathways.
Board members and administrators praised the programs and thanked students and staff for the presentations. The superintendent and board noted these programs’ roles in student engagement, workforce preparation and community partnerships.
