High‑school Spanish Honor Society showcases student‑led elementary Spanish club

Members of the Carlisle Area High School Spanish Honor Society presented their student‑led elementary Spanish club to the engagement committee on May 7.
Sophia Anderson, a Spanish teacher at the high school, said the club grew from a pen‑pal exchange with Spain and a student suggestion to bring language and culture lessons into elementary schools. “All the lessons had a student input and many were 100% student created,” Anderson said, and she described collaboration with staff at multiple elementary schools.
Students described lessons they taught: Emily Sarapin led a module on dance and music (tango and costume crafts), while Griffin Pac taught about food and culture in Argentina and brought a small sample snack to share. Elementary students from Hamilton and North Dickinson demonstrated Spanish introductions and counting. Principals Todd Kilmer and Brian Gokenar brought elementary students to show what they had practiced.
Anderson said she has discussed rotating other language honor societies into the elementary rotation to include French and German next year. The committee applauded the student presenters and the board plans no further action; the presentation was recognized as a community engagement highlight.
