Laura Brown, outreach coordinator for Goodwill of Michigan, asked the Elkhart City Parks and Recreation Board on May 6 to waive the park fee for "Goodwill on the Go," a resource fair planned for Roosevelt Park on June 4 from 1–4 p.m.
Brown said the event is designed to bring critical services to residents who face transportation barriers and that 23 local organizations have committed to participate, offering employment, housing, health and other services, plus family-friendly activities and free food. "Waving the park fee would directly support this effort, allowing us to invest more fully in the resources and services being provided to the community," she said.
After brief discussion, a board member moved to approve the permit and fee waiver; the board seconded and approved the motion by voice vote.
Staff recorded the permit approval but did not detail any follow-up requirements, such as liability insurance, staging logistics or parking plans, during the May 6 discussion. Brown offered to answer questions during the meeting and said she would coordinate with parks staff on event logistics.
