Shawnee briefed the Pfizer committee on HB 26 1340, commonly discussed as a re-vegetation or "re-veg" bill, and said staff remain concerned about the bill’s practical effects. She described recent amendments and said the Senate hearing was scheduled for that day.
"We are going to make an attempt again to really express our concerns... I highly suspect that this bill will probably be mildly changed a little bit, but will go ahead and pass is my guess," Shawnee told the committee, and she said Don Jewel from the water resources team would be testifying.
Staff said they will follow up with elected officials about next-session strategy if the measure becomes statewide policy, describing next year's session as the likeliest venue for broader action. Committee members asked no questions at the time and thanked Shawnee for the update.
The committee did not take formal action; staff will continue to monitor the bill, coordinate testimony, and report back to the committee after the hearing.
