Ruth Ollie Rice was sworn in as the student member of the Calvert County Board of Education during the board’s May 7 meeting. Rice repeated the oath administered by the board’s presiding officer and pledged to "support the Constitution of the United States...and execute the office of student member of the board of education," after which board members congratulated her.
The board also approved two superintendent recommendations for school principals. The board approved the recommendation to appoint a new principal at Windy Hill Elementary; the incoming principal addressed the board and thanked members for the opportunity. Later the board approved the appointment of Chandra Fleet as principal of Plum Point Middle School. The superintendent’s recommendation for Fleet was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; Fleet thanked the board and said she looks forward to partnering with families and staff.
Board members voted on each appointment by voice; officials announced the motion passed. The personnel actions will proceed as part of the district’s routine personnel approvals.
The meeting then moved on to public comment and other agenda items.
