Students describe We the People national trip and fundraising to the board

Victoria McGoris Molure, a member of the district’s We the People unit, presented the team’s experiences at the national competition in Washington, D.C., describing the itinerary, educational sessions, and fundraising that made the trip possible.
Victoria said the team was selected for a John Lewis class that covered much of the trip costs, but the group still needed substantial sponsorship support. “We needed around 48,000–49,000,” she said, adding that generous sponsors and community donors helped the team attend. The presentation included photos and descriptions of visits to the Capitol, the National Archives, memorials and museums and noted a breakout poster session and a video of a team competition posted to the board docs site.
The students described the competition schedule, unit presentations and workshop opportunities, and said they did not advance to the final top 10 but valued the educational experience and community sponsorship. Advisors Mr. Shear and Mrs. Flores were recognized onstage.
Board members thanked the students and recognized sponsors; the district indicated the students’ video and poster materials are available on the board docs site for those who want to view the team’s presentation.
