The Bountiful City Council approved a staff recommendation on May 12 to award a BDAC roof overlay and repairs to American Roofing for the low bid of $45,390. Staff said the work includes a six‑mill TPO white roof membrane, roof drains and parapet flashing, and comes with a 20‑year manufacturer warranty and a five‑year workmanship warranty.
Brock Hill, representing buildings/redevelopment, described a decade of incremental roof patches and said the replacement is urgent to protect valuable stored art in the building’s basement. Council asked about moisture and potential mold in problem areas; staff said contractors had inspected and mitigated known trouble spots and that the city will remain vigilant about interior moisture control.
Earlier in the meeting staff announced two grants awarded through the Utah Outdoor Recreation grant program — a $30,000 mini grant and a $125,000 grant — totaling $155,000 to build trails that will add roughly five miles of new trail mileage across Mueller Park (a hoof‑and‑boot/hiking trail) and Hullbrook/Temple Ridge (two new trails). Council applauded staff for securing the grants; staff said the grants are reimbursement‑style (the city pays costs up front and then is reimbursed), and that the grants advance the city’s active‑transportation and recreation goals.
What’s next: parks and buildings staff will coordinate procurement and scheduling for the BDAC roof work and begin planning and contractor coordination for trail construction funded by the grants.
